Colosseum Italian Restaurant and Steakhouse is the dream of owner and chef Nicos who combines fine Italian food with the best wine from around the world. Nicos’ passion for wine is clear when you peruse his glass cellar that contains over 200 vintages from the best vineyards worldwide, all tried and tested by the man himself on his travels. People come to the restaurant specifically to sample the rare wines that can’t be found in any other cellar on the island but if you’re not such a wine guru then the sommelier is on hand to pick you out something to your taste. The menu is quite extensive in that it covers everything from homemade pasta dishes, all sorts of meats including every variety of steak you can think of and a selection of seafood dishes. For our starters we enjoyed thinly sliced salmon on a bed of lettuce, with crushed black pepper and lemon which was a fresh and light dish and Aubergines in the oven with tomato sauce and Parmesan cheese a warm satisfying starter. For mains we had a fresh rib eye with bearnaise sauce and caramelized onions and mushrooms, and the calf's liver with onion and sage. The steak was a beautiful cut of meat that went perfectly with the local Cabernet Sauvignon from the Ezousa winery. I have never ordered the liver at a restaurant before but was pleasantly suprised, the sauce was lovely and rich and with the potatoes and vegetables that came to share was a fantastic dish. For desserts we had the Crepe Suzette and the Apple Pie with Vanilla ice cream which was the perfect end to a delicious and hearty meal. Also at the Colosseum from March to December every Monday there is the Pianoman show with Andrew Oliver. Every Friday Ray Ritchie sings the songs of the Rat Pack and the Big Band Era and every Saturday Andrew Oliver performs as Elton John.
